Vegyeskari művek / Works for Mixed Choir
Kodály started composing choral works in his student years but he only became a primarily choral composer after the success of Psalmus Hungaricus, from the mid-1920s. Our compilation is the first in a set of the Complete Works for Mixed Choir by Zoltán Kodály. The CD contains, with the exception of a short occasional piece, the a cappella compositions of more than three decades. The composer's corrections in the manuscripts and printed scores could be adopted in this recording courtesy of Mrs. Sarolta Kodály.
The Debrecen Kodály Chorus was founded in 1955. Apart from singing works by the composer it was named after, it has always been the choir's endeavour to present masterly 20th-century and contemporary choral music. The premiere of more than a hundred works is associated with its name. In the course of its concerts the choir has appeared in 40 countries.
Péter Erdei is the artistic leader of the Debrecen Kodály Chorus, director-general of the Zoltán Kodály Music Pedagogical Institute, lecturer at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music between 1973 and 2003, choirmaster of the Teachers' Choir of Kecskemét, guest conductor of the Choir of the Hungarian Radio, choirmaster of the World Youth Choir. Honorary doctor of Capital University (USA). His most important distinctions include Liszt-Prize, Katona-Prize, Trefort-Prize, Officer's Cross of the Order of the Hungarian Republic.
